Celtic inspired jewellery has had a tremendous surge of
interest in the new millennium. Seeing the need for a more
spiritual and meaningful type of ring prompted Peter Shakes
- Jeweller to develop their Celtic Class collection into
something that would work in harmony with the move away
from the stereotypes created in the technological age. We
are exploring the rich and spiritual reigns of ages past,
of which the Celtic culture is an important example.
Since 300 BC Celtic art has adopted into regional, insular
styles such as the romantic knot work common to Ireland.
This beautiful knot work was once contemplated as symbols
with religious or philosophical meanings. The creation of
these designs are closely aligned to the basics of geometry,
relating to the symbols of value in Celtic beliefs, of the
square, triangle, and circle. The square symbolizing the
creation of the universe, the circle symbolizes the infinite,
and the spiral, a derivative of the circle, symbolizes the
eternal journey of the universe.
The majority of these complex designs, as featured, have
been built and developed from a few key basic knots that
represent values such as love, wisdom and the infinite journey
of life. we have then incorporated diamond set designs to
emphasize the symbolism of the eternal union of marriage.
It is the symbolism behind these rings that attract people
today, and prompt them to give Celtic Class as gifts to
their loved ones. An example of this is the lovers knot,
which represents all things close to the heart- love, devotion,
tenderness and affection.
These Celtic Class rings with their weaving, and endless
flowing forms, represent the flow of force of vital energy.
Having no beginning and no ending, they are forever being
intertwined, symbolizing everlasting life.
